v0.0.3 - here we go!
Thanks to everyone who has downloaded the print and play files of the first couple of versions — I'm happy to announce v0.0.3 is the stable version for the time being, pending some more playtesting and time.
The core design loop is essentially an engine-builder that follows the trajectory of the book. Our anonymous bootlegger lived quite the life — going from waiter to delivery person to distributor to management, and ultimately manufacturer and kingpin. I briefly played with having players achieve milestones to advance up the ranks, then discarded it because it lengthened the game and made progress rely too much on luck.
Current playtests have focused on keeping the game short (between 20-30 minutes) while still offer plenty of strategy, a bit of take-that, and a bit of luck. As such, you now draw 2 Material cards to start the game (instead of 1), which gets you to completing more orders a bit faster. As you complete more orders and get closer to winning, you need to worry more about the other bootleggers than the 'Busted!' cards in the deck, which is both thematically and historically appropriate.
